Jewellery Care

Wear with care. Always be conscious of your jewellery while you wear it. My jewellery is made to be strong and long lasting but gemstones, especially pearls opals and softer stones don’t like knocks or harsh treatment.

If your piece has had a knock or you hear the stone rattle after a bit or wear have it checked. It is normal to have your stones checked and the settings tightened if necessary.

Gently wipe your jewellery with a jewellery polishing cloth when you take it off to reduce tarnish. Silver Tarnishes naturally and residues from the skin and body products left on the metal will tarnish silver faster if not removed. I think a little natural tarnish can really add character! Wipe pearls with a soft damp cloth after use if not to be worn for a while or if they come in contact with harsh residues.

Always store separately to avoid jewellery abrasion. Individual pieces can be wrapped in a soft cloth or pouch for travel or storage.

Clean in warm (not Boiling) water with a dash of mild detergent and a soft cloth. Use an old soft toothbrush to clean behind gemstones to give back their sparkle. Rinse well and pat dry with a soft dry cloth.

To give the best life to your jewellery the following tips can be valuable:

Make jewellery the last thing you put on after cosmetics, perfume, hairspray and other products and the first thing you take off before showering, cleaning or anything that might be harsh for your jewellery, especially rings.

Avoid chemicals like chlorine, bleach, harsh cleaning products. Chlorine can turn silver black.

Avoid wearing your jewellery to bed. This can add unnecessary wear and tear especially to pieces with moving parts for example chain links, pendants and can bend or break earring hooks and pins.

Never clean jewellery with toothpaste. It can be abrasive to both the metal and the stone.

Be careful using jewellery dips, especially with gemstones, always read the label, never use on pearls.

Avoid acidic things like lemons and vinegar coming in contact with pearls.

Don’t leave jewellery, especially with pearls and gemstones in a sunny window sill. The sun can dry out or fade or even crack some stones from the extreme heat.

Get to know your gemstones, they are all so individual and special. Understanding your jewellery can help you give it the care it needs.

But most of all………wear and love your jewellery. Jewellery is made to be worn, don’t just keep it hidden away for a special occasion to come. Dress it up or simply wear it casually and enjoy every moment.

Please contact me if you would like information for a particular piece.

Sorry this sounds like a lot of reading:) I’d just like to share these tips so I can help you give the best life to your jewellery once it is out of my hands.

Enjoy!!
